Notes on loss | And Dark Nights of the Soul 〰️

28 years ago today, I experienced my first dark night of the soul. At the tender and confusing age of 14 1/2, I lost one of my closest and dearest friends, my first love, my teenage dream — interestingly enough at the exact age my son is today (whom I therefore gave birth to at the age of 28 : something tells me there is some strong numerology signs in that but I am straying from the point).

How this friend of mine departed the material world is not the pursuit of these notes today, I have worked on the guilt and healed the pain through years of research, inner reflexion and diverse therapies. Plus I trust very deeply that he is now in a better place.

No, the pursuit today is about how one can experience the dark night of the soul, sometimes, often, several times in ones life time. How they are marked with confusion, helplessness, stagnation and sometimes a sense of withdrawal from any form of hope. A crisis of faith.
And yet how they represent the direct path towards enlightment. How once experienced, you awaken into a state of living that exudes a deeper sense of purpose or connectedness, a kind of rebirth.

Now although I can’t say that I have got to the point where I feel grateful for the experience, I can solidly admit that I am beginning to understand it’s ‘purpose’. And moreover, genuinely be grateful for the path that it has taken me on.

I hope strongly that you too who have experienced the trials of any form of deep loss are able to perceive the light that shines out of darkness 🕯️

Notes on stillness | When I was a young girl just

Notes on stillness | When I was a young girl just turned 8, my family and I moved from the south west of London straight to the south west of France. One of my strongest and fondest memories was hiding behind a hay stack and lying down in the long, coarse grass watching the clouds go by.
Our field, at that age, seemed endless. As did the lake that sat peacefully at the bottom of it.
It was then that I started to chase the sun by cupping my hands over my eyes and slowly following it’s dancing beams.
It was then also, when all was perfectly still, that I unconsciously started to listen to my inner voice.
Then came along studying, working, partying, internet, phones, social network & it all came to an end.
I have come across my inner voice again, but never the sheer beauty of that state of ‘stillness’.

What is currently making me happy | Notes on art work .

On this sinuous journey of life, of self-discovery and healing, one of the activities that is bringing me the most inner peace and enhancing my transformation is developing my art work.

For one of the first times in my life, the only pursuit I am eager to connect to this activity is ‘research’. Not result, not appraisal, not business development. Nothing but a simple form of self expression, similar to when I meditate, reflect or write.

As I intuitively mix the colours to match my present moods, thoughts and emotions, I gain an understanding of my soul that I was oblivious to untill that point.

Oh the sheer freedom of it all. I can’t express how strongly I feel about this newly found, life saving gift.
